There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly required to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of many borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights many luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
