There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that highlights numerous amenities accompanying the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
